Back Translation

Sometimes documents are produced in discovery that is translations.  Back Translation is translating a document back into the original language in which it was written. This provides verification of inclusion or omission of original content.

Sight Translation

For rushes and immediate needs: perfect for deposition transcripts or an on the stand request for admission of a document.

 

The entire document is read out loud in the target language in person.

This service can include a notarized affidavit by the translator stating that the deposition transcript was read out loud, in person to the deponent in their language. 

 

A translated version of this affidavit is available in Spanish to be signed by the witness confirming having had the entire transcript read out loud to them and that they understood it before they signed.  This statement is translated into English and both copies are provided to you.

 

 

Translation and turnaround estimates

· Translation charges are based on content matter, deadline, legibility and volume.

· For unknown content, we need to see a few sample pages.  Handwritten or poor image scans require longer turnarounds.

· Estimates on charges require a word count of the original document and then a calculation is made estimating the target word count of the final product.  There is a difference in how many words a phrase contains when translated.

· I do not subdivide an assignment without being instructed to do so by the client.

· Fees are lower for electronic Word versions of a document.  Please have PDF versions enabled to copy and paste.

· Never send an original document.

· A notarized Certificate of Accuracy is available upon your request.

· Sight Translation services are charged the same as in person interpreting services.

 

Letters Rogatory FAQ’s

Translation Requirements  The letters rogatory and any accompanying documents must be translated into the official language of the foreign country.  The translator should execute an affidavit as to the validity of the translation before a notary.  See Ristau, Sec. 2-2-2(2), p. 96-97 (1995 supp.)
